100 years of faith in action...

As Methodism's founder, John Wesley, rode more than 75,000 miles in faithful response to Christ's call to share the Gospel, in 2008 United Methodist Men celebrate 100 years of men in mission and ministry, putting their faith in action in the Wesleyan tradition.   In 1908, men's ministry was first recognized by the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, thus acknowledging the unique role of men as a vital part in the church's fulfillment of the great commission.

During 2008 it is both right and important that United Methodist Men throughout the church use the history of the last 100 years as a tool to motivate and inspire themselves and others to faithful obedience to Jesus Christ.

RESOURCES:

In looking back the goal is not to say "Look at the good we have done", as the works rightfully speak to the glory of God. The power of the Holy Spirit did it, not men. Rather, looking back should say to future generations, look what you can do when God is in charge and Jesus Christ gets the glory.

100th Anniversary of Men's Mnistry Bulletin Insert (PDF) A short history of men in ministry in Methodism. A local fellowship might print local events of importance on the reverse for distribution in the church bulletin.

Men's Ministry Worship Service (PDF) A liturgy and litany for use by a local congregation on a designated Sunday where UMMen's ministry is recognized and encouraged.
