UMMen award life membership to three
at South Carolina Annual Spiritual Retreat

At their annual "spring" Spiritual Retreat, Feb 11-13 at the Radisson Hotel in Columbia, the United Methodist Men award three Life Member awards to two past presidents and to the retiring Prayer Advocate.

Officers of the SCC UMM: front row includes (l-r) presenter, L.W. Smith and recipients Robert Scarborough, Clayton Easter and Bill Smith.

Robert Scarborough, president from 2008-2010 and William C. (Bill) Smith, his predecessor as president from 2004-2008 were awarded life status in recognition of their dedication and work toward Men's Ministry in SC and beyond.

Making the award to Smith and Scarborough was L. W, Smith, SCC UMM president 1998-2004 and currently the SEJ president of UMMen Conference Presidents (Smith is currently vice president). LW was awarded life status in 2004.

Clayton Easter, who retired as SCC UMM Prayer Advocate at the end of December, served in that post from 2003 to 2010. He also has served as SEJ Prayer Advocate, also retiring in December.  Clayton was awarded life membership status by Dale Sherrin, President and SCC UMM and Robert Scarborough immediate past president. It was said Clayton brought a sense of dedication and devotion to prayer ministry unequalled in the Southeast Jurisdiction. While he will be sorely missed in that function, it is anticipated Clayton will continue to be active in many areas of prayer and men's ministry,

LW Smith and Bill Smith as well as Clayton were previously recognized as Fellows of the John Wesley Society of the UMMen Foundation, This national recognition was bestowed upon them by the SCC UMMen.
