CLERGY THINK-TANKS
The Conference Presidents of United Methodist
Men of the Southeastern Jurisdiction established
the G. Ross Freeman Leadership Award to honor
pastors who provide exemplary leadership to United
Methodist Men in the local church. These awards have been presented annually since 2002.
Each year the Jurisdictional Awards Committee reviews
the achievements of the nominated pastors at the annual
meeting in November at Lake Junaluska. It has become clear
that men's ministries could be strengthened
by sharing the stories of the award winning pastors and their successes in men's ministry. The resulting resources have been com
The enthusiasm for this idea on the part of the Southeastern Jurisdiction Association of Conference
Presidents has led to the annual Clergy Think-Tank. Each year's recipients of the Freeman Leadership Award gather at Hinton Rural Life Center in the mountains of
southwestern North Carolina.
Three days are spent in the Hinton Lodge probing topics related to men's issues, punctuated by solitude, worship, presentations,
and uninhibited discussion. The resulting wealth of ideas for encouraging
the ministries of men is compiled from each Think Tank and those reports are available here.
