SEJ UMM Presidents' Fall Meeting
Simpsonwood Conference Center
November 9-11.2007
The fall meeting of the Association of Conference Presidents of United Methodist Men of the SEJ was held Nov. 9-11, 2008 at Simpsonwood Conference Center, Norcross, GA. With President John Dowell presiding beneath the center’s historic stained glass Wesley windows, men of the jurisdiction worshiped, worked and were inspired to continue in their work with men of the local fellowships.
Reports were received on the activities of the various annual conferences and related ministries, highlighting the work of Christian men throughout the Southeast. For more information on the work of men in the various conferences, click for a link to each conference in the southeast.
A highlight of the event was a time of memorial to Denver King, recently deceased UMM Prayer Advocate. The testimonies given by so many in memory of Denver were a powerful witness to the grace available to a man whose life was lived in faithful obedience to Christ.
Other active ministries of the UMM of the SEJ presenting reports included Scouting, the UMM Foundation, the SEJ Men’s Retreat 2007, the G. Ross Freeman Foundation, the Strength for Service devotional for the troops, and announcement of a new Men’s E-Newsletter designed to share news and information of men’s ministries throughout the SEJ.
Officers for the next two year term were elected for these positions: Larry Price (SGA) 1st Vice-President; Bill Smith (SC) 2nd VP; Juddy Stephenson (AWF) 3rd VP; Barry Merrill (NC) Secretary. These persons will take office, Jan/ 1, 2008. The office of president will be filled (per the by-laws) at the March 2008 meeting. The nominating committee has put forward the name of L. W. Smith (SC) for this office.
