A Christmas Tribute to our Troops

The James Award is presented to men and women in the local church whose life of service for the Kingdom of Christ is a quiet witness to all.

The SEJ UMM Association of Conference Presidents presented the James Award to Morris Oglesby and Sam Hodges, long time leaders in service to Christ and UMMen in the SEJ. The James award is given in recognition of outstanding service to the Lord's church and given by the G. Ross Freeman Foundation. President L.W.Smith commented that these two men were rocks in the SEJ and major leaders in outreach and mission programs.

The James Award provides a way for Fellowships of United Methodist Men to recognize men and women in the local church whose character and service mark them as "Doers of the Word and not Hearers only…" as the book of James admonishes Christians in 1:22 (KJV)

Feed the Hungry at Christmas

With a long history of connection between UMM and the hunger ministry of the Society of St. Andrew, Big Island, VA, a new opportunity is available for reaching out to the hungry during the holiday.

So much is uncertain these days:  Domestic and world economy, peace among nations, home ownership, jobs, health care … and for nearly 40 million Americans, their next meal.

SGA UMM Planning Retreat

14 men attended the South Georgia UMMen Planning Retreat at Gaskins Springs in Douglas, Ga on Oct 10th.  Host Roy Lifsey did a superb job as always and Bishop King joined the group on Saturday as the men planned ahead for 2010. Thanks were expressed to President Chuck Cowart for his leadership.

UM Children's Home Rebuild Update - NGCUMM

Reconstruction Started! The long awaited rebuilding of Leigh Cottage has begun!

The foundation is poured, and the framing is underway. Volunteers from United Methodist Men's groups recently began rebuilding Leigh Cottage last month at the United Methodist Children's Home in Decatur, GA. The cottage was destroyed by fire in 2007. Letters From Dad in North Carolina asks a big question
	At St. James UMC, Greenville, men were asked: “If God were to take you home today ... what would your wife and children hold in their hands tomorrow that would let them know that they were the treasures of your life?”

New GCUMM Commission Headquarters
In Nashville the new headquarters of the General Commission on United Methodist Men is dedicated after significant participation in the project by the men of the Southeastern Jurisdiction.

North Georgia UMM rock at Rock Eagle
	With workshops titled “Guys Gone Wild” and “MAC Attack!” and music provided by Wild at Heart, it obviously was going to be a good time at Rock Eagle for the 46th Annual Spiritual Men’s Retreat, September 26-28, 2008. The retreat is sponsored annually since 1961 by the North Georgia Conference United Methodist Men.

North Carolina Conference UMM presents: No Man Left Behind

The NC Conference UMM sponsored our second No Man Left Behind training event at St. James UMC in Greenville, NC Sept. 11-13. Of the 61 men who came for training, most were Methodist and most had three to five members of their church there including many pastors. click for the whole story

The United Methodist Men of the North Georgia Conference are hosting this dynamic Spiritual Retreat led by Rev. James Smith, Lay Evangelist & Senior Pastor at First United Methodist Church in Villa Rica, and Mrs. Betty Smith, Author, Lay Evangelist and Member at First United Methodist Church in Powder Springs.  The day will include six sessions (one after lunch will have James with the guys and Betty with the ladies), praise and worship music provided by the Jefferson First praise group, lunch and supper.  In addition there will be a time of prayer ministry for all at the final session. P.E.T.S are hand cranked front wheel carts that assist those who have no legs or no use of their legs because

Plan now to attend this awesome spiritual weekend!  Keynote speaker is former NFL player Bill Glass, founder of Bill Glass Ministries and author of Champions For Life - The Power of A Father's Blessing.  There will be musical performances by Wild At Heart, Ralph Freeman, the Wesley Chapel Voices of Praise Choir, Builders None, and the UMMen all volunteer choir.  Workshops led by clergy and layman on topics of importance to men today.

10th National Gathering of United Methodist Men July 10-12, 2009 Belmont University Nashville, TN
NASHVILLE, Tenn.––The 2009 tenth national gathering of UM Men will be held at Belmont University in Nashville. The 20-member Commission on UM Men voted to move the gathering following Belmont’s construction of an event center capable of hosting the 5,000 men expected to attend the July 9-12, 2009 event.

The fall meeting of the Association of Conference Presidents of United Methodist Men of the SEJ was held Nov. 9-11, 2007 at Simpsonwood Conference Center, Norcross, GA.  With President John Dowell presiding beneath the center’s historic stained glass Wesley windows, men of the jurisdiction worshiped, worked and were inspired to continue in their work with men of the local fellowships.

Lake Junaluska, NC - August 10-12, 2007

The UMMen of the SEJ are alive and well. They gathered this past August 10-12. at Lake Junaluska for spiritual renewal and training at the SEJ UMMen Quadrennial Spiritual Gathering and Training Event. The theme was: "Into the Word, Into the World."
And that's exactly what the UMMen of the SEJ are doing!

THE FOURTH CLERGY THINK-TANK HAD A SPECIAL FOCUS AND THE AWARD WINNING PASTORS WERE AS CREATIVE

Six Pastors who received the G. Ross Freeman Leadership Award in 2005 upon the nominations of their local men and endorsed by the annual conference gathered at the Hinton Rural Life Center January 24-26, 2006 .

THE G. ROSS FREEMAN LEADERSHIP AWARD

Nominations are being received for the next recipients of the G. Ross Freeman Leadership Award. This award program was created by action of the Southern Jurisdiction Conference Presidents of United Methodist Men in June of 2001.

The purpose of the Award is to strengthen United Methodist Men Fellowship in local churches by honoring pastors who inspire men in ministries of evangelism, missions, and spiritual growth
