When men accept Christ's call to be His hands and feet, good things come from bad. As Joseph said in Genisis 50:20 NLV, "You planned to do a bad thing.... But God planned it for good..."

After an arson fire tragically destroyed a cottage at the UM Children's Home in Decatur GA, it was unclear how the Children's home would rebuild this residence for the young men in their care. But after the word of this need reached the men of the North Georgia Conference, wheels were set in motion by God's grace that showed the UMC connection at its best.

The UMM of North Georgia have connected with the Children's home to rebuild historic Leigh Cottage on the Decatur campus.

A wonderful pattern of partnership has been established for any UM Men's fellowship seeking to connect with their own community's needs.

By acquiring a Christian general contractor who is willing to use volunteers in the completion of the rebuilding of Leigh Cottage, and with the UMM volunteer base of an entire annual conference, significant savings will accrue on behalf of the Children's Home.

Following a pattern established by rebuilding two previous burned churches and a pattern established in Katrina recovery on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, when contractors can be shown the efficiency, skill and dedication of UMM volunteers, the leveraging of resources provided by this partnership blesses everyone through the following:

  1. Missions are blessed by saving money;
  2. Men are blessed through their obedience to Christ's call to service;
  3. Those served are blessed in seeing the love of God shared in a clear way;
  4. And most importantly, God is glorified and the love of Christ is shared..
